Retaining My Title

I think I've mentioned before that a high school friend dubbed me "the man with a T-shirt from everywhere".

The past two weekends, I made overnight trips to Las Cruces, NM.  During the first trip, I went to Caliche's (originally called Scoopy's) with my friend Gimpy.  (It's not a trip to Cruces if I don't go to Scoopy's.)  Gimpy observed that they had T-shirts for sale and remarked surprise that I didn't have one already.  (This is not my fault; he's an enabler.)

The second weekend, I returned to Scoopy's for another shirt.  We also ate at Day's Hamburgers (no website), another favorite.  They, too, had shirts for sale.

I ended up with the dark gray and turquoise Scoopy's shirts, and a red Day's shirt (no image available).  Sigh.  Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

WWaW, Part 2

Friday evening, I went to a store to pick up an item I had ordered.  The clerk apologized, saying that they had updated their computer system, and his access had been deleted in the process.  I explained that I had that effect on computers, while thinking to myself, "Aha!  That explains why it snowed in Santa Fe today."

(This was on Fri. 5/19/17, late for snow, even by Santa Fe standards.)

The Sooner, The Better

Thank goodness it's a short book, but I can't wait to finish the mystery I'm reading.  Every time I pick it up, the title gets a Village People song stuck in my head.

In China, It's Called a Tang Twister

Whenever an American reporter speaks about President Xi of China, the reporter pronounces the name as "she".  I get a bit confused, then, when the reporter says, "Xi [she] says he will..."

We don't hear much about the Chinese political system on the news.  During recent elections in France and England, we learned about each candidate and what s/he did before & during his/her rise to power.  I think that Xi was a simple beach vendor when he started out.

"Who's this Xi on the ballot?" the party leaders asked.  "What does he do?"

The reply they might've gotten was, "Xi sells sea shells by the sea shore."

Weather Wizardry at Work

To my fellow New Mexicans:

I apologize for the torrential rainstorms, hail, and tornado watches/warnings this week.  I made the mistake of washing my car's windows on Sunday.  I mean, that's obviously why I drove through enough rain on Monday that would've washed all the dirt off anyway.  Once I learn how to tone down my Weather Wizardry, I won't accidentally dump water and ice and wind on the rest of you.  (Come to think of it, that would explain that weird warning I got from a perfectly respectable website yesterday, too.)

Makes me wonder what might've happened if I had washed the entire car...

Follow-Up

It snowed in Albuquerque on Saturday, much of the day, but it didn't stick to paved areas, and, in areas where it did stick, it melted before sundown.  According to one TV weatherman, it was the fourth-latest snowfall on record.  (The three later dates were May 2, May 3, and May 4.)

My coworkers said 5" - 6" fell in Santa Fe (and stuck, so they shovel/plow crews had to work), but it, too melted all that day.

Me?  I stayed inside with my mom all day because most New Mexican drivers are idiots when it rains or snows.
